Topkapi Palace

Topkapi Palace

Today I had some scarlet, juicy watermelon which was perfect for the hot weather! I decided since the climate was so hot, I should wear something quite light so I chose a pepper red dress with some socks. I ran down for my favourite breakfast, pancakes with Nutella and munched it up happily. After the delicious breakfast, we set out and today we were seeing the well-known, Topkapi Palace which is a major tourist attraction in Istanbul. It was the Ottoman Sultans palace and was certainly very grand.

We walked inside exceedingly excited and found architecture models of the building in the olden times and visited the old kitchen. It was made of hard stone with towering roofs which had a hole in because when they made the food all the steam would gather up so instead it would float in the air and out of the roof! It was a particularly clever idea.

There were huge liquorice black cauldrons and various cutlery like delicately decorated spoons with crystals and the bottom and rubies with sapphires encrusted at the handle. There were high standard pots and water jugs, to serve dishes and drinks for the king with beautiful colours from places where artists are mostly found. All of these splendid items were gifts for the king specially made and they were all extremely valuable.

We found clocks further and many of them were from England all heights from tiny pocket watches to huge ones like Big Ben! Then we exited the palace and walked down a few streets away to the Hagia Sophia which is located opposite the Blue Mosque. On the way there we had a little treat of ice cream. We had to buy tokens to get it which was very strange. We got one tangy lemon ice cream for my mum, a sweet banana one for my brother, a strawberry ice cream with hints of chocolate for my eldest sister, a creamy vanilla ice cream for my other sister and finally a spectacular chocolate one for myself! What a lot of ice cream! We sat down on some tables that had a fabulous view and slurped on our ice creams until we finished them to air! As soon as possible we set of to the marvellous Hagia Sophia!
