Today I was very curious because I was told we had a surprise. After the playtime bell went, we walked inside and entered the classroom and there was a picture of Tim Peake on the board. We were going to see Tim Peake in the ISS (International Space Station) answering questions!
We got a long talk before the signal came through. It had to travel a long way and our class thought it was going to take ages but, surprisingly, it only took about fifty seconds until it worked.
We saw Tim floating about doing cartwheels, front flips, tumbles and somersaults, and it looked like it was so much fun! Tim made his microphone float about, as there was no gravity.
After about three questions were asked, Tim showed us how they drank water in space because, if Tim poured out water in a cup, it would just float about. Tim showed us a shiny, silver water bottle with a straw, telling us that this is what he drank from.
Then he said that he would show us what would happen if he made a bubble out of the water. He blew a bubble and it never popped! How strange! Then he made the bubble a tiny bit bigger adding water to it and showed us what would happen if he put a fizzy tablet into it. We all gasped in amazement because the bubble grew and grew and grew! It was so huge and it turned white so that it looked like a giant snowball!
Tim then got two bats and showed us that, when he hit the bubble with bat at the top, it would go straight down and when he hit it with the bat at the bottom, it went back up again! Tim said that when he was bored, he would play ping pong with the other astronauts!
I wanted to know how he slept, as there was no gravity. He said that was a very good question and explained that he slept in a sleeping bag that was strapped to the floor so that he did not float away! It was very interesting.
A few minutes later, Tim had to go, so he said goodbye and handed back to the man who gave the talk. He was extremely clever, as he knew all the answers to the questions people couldn’t ask Tim. I had a lot of fun and I was truly interested. I hope we have another good surprise at High Lawn again!
I remember this in Year 4 Raeesa, it was really fun!
I remember it too! I really enjoyed it! 🙂
