Flying to Turkey

Today I woke up at 4:30 am! I had to get ready and take my suitcase downstairs in time for the taxi that we had booked. We walked outside and I gaped at the taxi! It wasn’t just a taxi, it was a huge, glossy white minibus. We travelled to Manchester Airport and we had to weigh our luggage, get our boarding passes and go through the security checks. Then we boarded the huge, shiny Lufthansa plane to Frankfurt, Germany! We had to take two planes to get to Turkey!

I sat inside on the the comfy, leather seat and lay my head back. Immediately, I wanted to go to sleep! Soon we could have a snack, so we ordered a cheese sandwich and some scrumptious, flaky pastry! We got to pick a drink too! I had orange juice but strangely my dad tried some lemon flavoured tea. By his face I could tell he liked it. No more than 30 minutes later, it was time get off!

We were in Germany! It was such a lovely view when we were high up, with fluffy clouds that looked just like cotton wool! There were huge sky scrapers towering above the lush, emerald green fields and a huge tower nearly three times bigger than the BFG! Wow, I imagine it to be about sixty meters high! We walked out into the airport building and were greeted some German people who said I was very pretty! Next we got some more security checks done, although the first time they made much more sense because everthing was in English!!! Tee hee!

We then scanned our boarding passes and went to enter the second aeroplane. But when we walked through the gate, there was no aeroplane, just one coach! We were meant to enter a coach for some reason. Were we going to go all the way to Turkey in that crammed, sweltering coach? Luckily we weren’t, which made me very relieved. We were just travelling to the aeroplane because it was on the other side of the building.

We soon reached the aeroplane, which was immense and we had to climb some stairs to board it! It was very crowded. We just sat down and a nice air hostess gave me some gummy bears and a nice activity box. I then started playing on my iPad. The pilot flew as quick as a flash and the aeroplane rose into the air. It was very interesting to see! I was just completing the activities when the plane whooshed even higher! I was so shocked to see how high I was!

Soon, some trays of snacks arrived. There was tasty pasta, warm bread, margarine, biscuits and a cup of whatever drink – hot or cold! After about another hour or two, we reached Istanbul Airport, got our passports scanned, collected our luggage and left the building, where a lady holding a sign with our name was waiting. She showed us to our minibus, which took us to our hotel. We were very tired, so had a nice rest and fell fast asleep in our beautiful hotel rooms.

Very interesting Raeesa. When do you find time to write all this? Try to observe the people, learn a word or two of the Turkish language and take some pictures with some local people. Have a good time anyway.

Thank you Grandad! I learnt the word ‘merhaba’ (hello) and ‘iyi’ (good). I took lots of pictures that I will send to you! 😀
